Patent Requirements
To file or manage a patent application in Egypt, the following documents and requirements must be provided. Please review carefully, as missing items may delay or invalidate the application.
Standard Patent Applications
Required Documents
1. Power of Attorney legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate. [Download Form]
2. Deed of Assignment legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
3. Extract from the applicant company’s commercial register or certificate of incorporation (legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate).
• ⚠️ These three items must be available within 4 months from the filing date; otherwise the application will lapse irrevocably.
4. Abstract (summary of the invention) in English and Arabic (≈100 words).
5. Specification in English or French for Arabic translation, subdivided into:
• Prior art
• Drawbacks of the prior art
• What is new (improvements)
• Detailed description
• Mode of exploitation of the invention
The specification must be filed with the application. The Arabic translation must be submitted within 6 months.
6. One set of formal engineering drawings.
7. Applicant(s) and inventor(s) details: name, address, nationality, profession/business.
8. Certified copy of the priority document (if claimed, within 3 months of filing).
📌 Note: For PCT applications, items 2, 3, and 8 are not required.
Change of Name / Address Applications
1. Power of Attorney legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate (with new name or address). [Download Form]
2. Change of name/address certificate legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
Assignment Applications
1. Power of Attorney signed by the assignee, legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate. [Download Form]
2. Extract of the assignee company’s commercial register or certificate of incorporation, legalized.
3. Legalized deed of assignment from the assignor(s) to the assignee(s). [Download Form]
License Applications
1. License agreement legalized up to the Egyptian Consulate.
2. Extract of the licensee company’s commercial register or certificate of incorporation, legalized.
